We tried and tested the stylish Hart Shoreditch hotel

First thing’s first. The location is a big draw with the Hart Shoreditch hotel. It’s situated on Great Eastern Street, between Old Street, Liverpool Street and Shoreditch High Street. In the heart of London’s East End, it’s surrounded by vintage boutiques, indie coffee shops and swanky eateries. In great news for sapphics, it’s within walking distance of queer hotspots like The Common Press bookshop and café, and just a short overground away from Dalston’s vibrant scene featuring iconic gay bars Dalston Superstore and The Divine.

Part of Hilton’s Curio Collection of luxury independent hotels, the Hart Shoreditch is design-led. The moment you enter, you’re struck by the vibe: contemporary cool meets old school elegance. With a sophisticated colour palette of warm neutrals, copper tones and rose gold, there are textures and intricate flourishes galore. This place offers style and comfort, with an elegant yet edgy touch. Here, everything is elevated. Even the interior fragrance is bespoke (a soothing blend of amber and cedar, in case you’re interested).

Our chic room has all the essentials – shower with outstanding water pressure, ample storage space, wall-mounted flat screen with all the channels you could want – plus cosy, thoughtful extras like a Nespresso machine and a Marshall Bluetooth speaker. The attention to detail makes you feel special, from the gorgeous Soapsmith Brick Lane toiletries to the handcrafted ceramic carafe, which you can refill via the filtered taps in each corridor. Oh, and the view? London’s rooftops and skyscrapers as far as the eye can see.

This theme of classic with a modern twist continues in the hotel’s pan-Asian restaurant UBA. Highlights include the luxurious red velvet banquette seating, the delicious cocktails and mocktails, and the salmon teriyaki. The hotel celebrates cuisine, community and culture, showcasing eye-catching artworks by local creatives, running a diverse range of pop-up events and regularly collaborating with the London Design Festival.

So what’s our verdict? Overall, the Hart Shoreditch is a serene and buzzy base in a prime location near queer hotspots. And even better, dogs are welcome!
