December is officially upon us, and that means one thing: Queermas is nearly here. If you’ve already exhausted every single sapphic Christmas film out there, we’ve got good news. A new film all about gay firefighters during the holidays is here! Yes, you read that right.
Written by Meeshelle Neal and Nataline Rodrigues, The Firefighter’s Christmas Wish follows firefighter Dani (Holly Deveaux) who rescues a family just before Christmas. She reignites her late mother’s Holiday Heroes fundraiser to help the community just before Christmas. Although she’s busy saving Christmas, Dani might get just a little bit distracted by a charming photographer named Sasha (Kyana Teresa).
Posting a heartfelt message to Instagram, Kyana spoke about how much fun she had making this film: “It’s an absolute honour and privilege to be able to represent positive queer characters and stories especially during a time when we desperately need it most. LGTBQ+ rights are under attack, queer media is being quietly removed from our screens, and anything we can do to show up, be visible and remain resilient in the face of it all is an absolute WIN.”
She added: “Let’s celebrate these wins together and keep more stories like this coming. This is for you. This is for me. This is for us!”
The Firefighter’s Christmas Wish is just one of the new sapphic Christmas films that will be bringing the holiday spirit to your screens this season. Tello’s new festive film The Christmas Writer is out now. Chloë Grace Moretz will be playing a sapphic character in the hit new film Oh.What.Fun which hits Prime Video on 3 December.
The Firefighter’s Christmas Wish will have its Canadian premier Sunday 21 Dec at 8pm on W Network.
