Since the release of their first album Prelude To Ecstasy in early 2024, The Last Dinner Party have dominated the UK alternative music scene, with Prelude quickly reaching Number One in the UK charts.
You may have heard their hit single Nothing Matters on the radio. Maybe you’ve seen their iconic flamboyant outfits at shows on social media. But here are some things you might not know about The Last Dinner Party…
The band was originally called The Dinner Party
When the band first formed, they originally went by the name The Dinner Party, changing to The Last Dinner Party only in January of 2023 to avoid confusion with the American jazz artist Dinner Party. In an interview with Under the Radar, bassist Georgia Davies explained that the band name was inspired by “the idea of a huge debauched dinner party where people come together to celebrate with a hedonistic banquet”.
The group met as students in London
Lead singer Abigail Morris, bassist Georgia Davies and guitarist Lizzie Mayland have known each other since university, where they met while the trio were studying at King’s College London. However, it seems the musical bond was truly established once they started going to gigs together in South London. Davies has described how they all felt “totally inspired by the music that was being made”, and they all knew they wanted to be part of that in some way. Keyboardist Aurora Nishevci and guitarist Emily Roberts both attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and were recommended as band members by a mutual friend.
They were signed to their record label because of a YouTube video
After the members joined together to form The Last Dinner Party in 2020, they rehearsed privately but put off playing any gigs until after all COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. Their first live gig was in November 2021 at The George in London. At their third live gig in April 2022 at XOYO, the band’s performance was filmed by videographer Lou Smith who uploaded the footage to his YouTube channel. This moment completely altered the trajectory of the band’s career, inviting a flood of emails from record labels and managers and ultimately leading them to be signed to Island Records.
Their second album was released only a year and a half after their first
The Last Dinner Party has truly treated their fans to what feels like a constant outpour of new music. After releasing a string of singles in 2023 and early 2024, their debut album, Prelude To Ecstasy, was released in February 2024. To fans’ delight, their second album, The Pyre, was released shortly after in October 2025, which reached Number Two in the UK charts. Alongside the release of The Pyre, the band announced their 35-date tour across the UK, Europe and Australia from late 2025 to early 2026, with a separate 31-date North American tour in March 2026.
The band have been nominated for nine musical awards and has won four
After the release of Prelude, The Last Dinner Party were nominated for the 2024 Mercury Music Prize and MTV Push Awards, while proudly taking home the Rolling Stone Rising Star award, the BBC Sound of 2024 award and the Rising Star 2024 Brit Award. In the 2025 Brit Awards, following the release of The Pyre, the band were nominated for Best British Group, Best Alternative/Rock Act and Best British Album, taking home the award for Best New Artist.
