With a new year around the corner, we asked a licensed sexologist to share her predictions for queer sex trends we can expect to see
BY SOFIE ROOS
So, how will we sapphics get busy in the bedsheets during 2026? I’m Sofie Roos, a Swedish based sexologist and relationship therapist, as well as author at relationship and sex positive online magazine Passionerad. These are my predictions for five queer sex trends I think we’ll see in 2026!
Stronger focus on communication
I think we’ll get better at communicating our needs to our partner/s, and make them understand what we want to try and what we find stimulating. We’ll also get better at asking our partner what they want.
As sex gets less taboo and as new people understand that communication is key for having great intimacy, something social media is much to thank for, it will feel easier and more relevant to talk about our sex life than ever before.
We’re having more sex online
Even though online dating will decrease as people are sick of trying to meet their love online, I think sapphics will have more sex online, both as singles and with their partner.
With better dating apps and more stimulating and safe technology that can be used during sex overall, it will be both easier, extra satisfying and stimulating to live out lusts via the internet. It will also make it easier to satisfy one another if you’re in a long-distance relationship.
And sadly, there’s a risk that some of these connections replace physical intimacy, just as our life gets further digitalised overall. I hope the digital ways will be a complement rather than a replacement.
Sex toys using AI
I think we’ll see an increase in sex toys using AI, such as vibrators getting to learn what vibration pattern makes you orgasm, or remotely controlled vibrators you can give instructions on how they should stimulate your partner, so it reminds them of you in bed.
The sex will get extra kinky
I think the sex will continue to get kinkier. Sapphics will explore stuff like dirty talk, roleplaying, bondage and using sex toys in bed. This will also be an effect of the more sex positive climate online, where people on social media aren’t afraid of opening up about their preferences, and inspire and guide other people to try.
More sustainable choices when it comes to intimate products
Sapphics generally tend to be very conscious when it comes to making sustainable choices both for body and planet. I think we’ll see an increase in queer women buying ecological and body-friendly lube, vegan condoms and eco intimate soap.
