At a time where queer marriage rights feel threatened for a lot of individuals in the US, Lucy Dacus says “f**k the state”.
Earlier this year, before embarking on her Forever Is A Feeling US tour, singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus offered fans the opportunity to tie the knot at her shows. Inspired by the growing worry surrounding the security of gay marriage rights during Donald Trump’s second presidency, Lucy had the idea to officiate weddings on stage at her concerts. Since then, she has officiated 154 weddings at her concerts, 120 of which were between queer people.
Most recently, Lucy married four couples during her performance of Best Guess on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and took to Instagram to celebrate this alongside the end of her tour.
The Night Shift singer stated: “Maybe some people got to see their first gay wedding and noticed the world did not crumble under their feet lol.”
She continued, writing: “And f**k the state for continually toying around with the idea of revoking marriage equality. Plenty of people made this decision because they weren’t sure how long they would have the chance, or never planned to have a ceremony because their families were unsupportive.”
“I don’t know what to say other than I hope you find love in your heart. Everyone deserves to choose their own family.”
Lucy is no stranger to LGBTQIA+ activism, and consistently uses her platform to highlight issues faced by marginalised communities. The Ankles singer is queer herself, and confirmed her relationship with fellow boygenius bandmate Julien Baker in March 2025.
Lucy Dacus continues on her Forever Is A Feeling tour, playing shows in Mexico, Sydney, Melbourne and Tokyo. In addition to these dates, Dacus will also be supporting Billie Eilish on Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour.
