We’re obsessed with these queer icons getting their flowers

While summer may be a distant memory now, the approach of winter means one thing: award season is here. And the Emmys 2025 certainly knew how to kick off this beloved time of year. So strap in and let’s debrief some of our favourite moments from this year’s celebration of the small screen.

Hacks crushed it with two huge wins

Everyone’s favourite dark comedy series was celebrated at this year’s Emmys, with both Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder winning big in their categories. For those counting, this is the fourth time Jean Smart has won lead actress for her role in Hacks. Hannah Einbinder celebrated her first Emmy win in true style with a powerful message: “F**k ICE and Free Palestine.”

This Adolescence star got her flowers

Stephen Graham’s hit Netflix show Adolescence won big throughout the night, but we were especially happy to see Erin Doherty take home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a limited or anthology series or movie. LGBTQIA+ people everywhere cheered when Erin kissed her partner before getting her well-deserved award. Erin thanked her partner, Sinéad, saying, “And Sinéad, thank you for making me the happiest person in the world. I love you with everything I’ve got.”

Our favourite campy reality show won big

Who doesn’t love The Traitors? The reality TV show has captivated fans around the world with its campy twists and turns. At this year’s Emmys, host Alan Cumming accepted the award saying, “It’s a difficult time we live in, but it’s so great that our show brings a little bit of joy into this life.” Alan also wore the Not A Phase pin on his lapel, showing his support for trans+ people.

These LGBTQIA+ shows were snubbed

While we loved watching some incredible stars get their flowers, there were a few LGBTQIA+ stars who, unfortunately, did not take home the prize. The Last Of Us notably did not take home any awards despite Bella Ramsey being nominated. Only Murders In The Building was also unsuccessful in its category, and Ayo Edebiri did not take home the Emmy for her performance in The Bear.

Megan Stalter made a statement on the red carpet

The Too Much actor made sure her outfit would get people talking on the Emmys red carpet as she attached a sign which read “CEASEFIRE” onto her bag. The star was not the only person to use the red carpet to shine a spotlight on this pressing matter, with Hacks star Hannah Einbinder also sporting an Artists4Ceasefire pin.
