The saying goes: “We are what we eat”. But did you know that what we eat and drink can also have an effect on our coochies?

BY SOFIE ROOS

While vaginas come in all tastes, smells, shapes and forms, and they’re all as lovely as each other, it can be interesting to know how what we eat affects it. The food and drink we consume can not only impact the smell of our vulvas, but the taste as well. Not only this, but there are also certain things you can eat if you would like to tinker with the smell or taste of yours.

I’m Sofie Roos, a licensed sexologist and relationship therapist, as well as author at the Swedish relationship and sex positive online magazine Passionerad, and in this article, I will walk you fellow sapphics through how our diet impacts our vajayjays.

What does a healthy vagina taste like?

You won’t be able to make your vagina taste like candy or smell like roses because a healthy vagina will always smell a bit sour due to its natural pH balance. But you can make it taste and smell fresh by taking care of it.

Remember that a vagina smells like a vagina, and you should not worry about how you smell or taste. These tips are simply for those who are interested. You should never feel that you need to change anything. You are perfect just the way you are.

Types of food that have an effect on the vaginas smell and taste

Foods rich in a strong taste

Foods with a very strong taste or scent, such as garlic, curry, some cheeses, spicy herbs or even coffee, can affect how the vaginal secretions taste and smell and make it a bit more bitter since the food goes into our bloodstream, just the same way as it affects the smell of our breath and sweat.

Fruits and vegetables can help to maintain a healthy vagina

The healthy vagina is known for having that quite sour taste, which is a good thing since the low pH balance is great for protecting from infections. By eating lots of fruits and veggies, such as pineapples, apples, mangos, and citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons you can help to keep that sourness and freshness.

And even though there are lacking studies proving it, many have claimed that eating fruits leads to a sweeter smell, and we can’t ignore all those statements.

Also, vitamin C has been found to make your coochie wetter, or at least prevent vaginal dryness, which is great if wanting more glide during sex – so citrus fruits and celery are extra good for your vajayjay!

Natural fat is great

Eating natural fats such as nuts and avocados often helps to keep a balanced smell and taste of your beaver.

Yoghurt and cinnamon

Eating yoghurt, especially with active bacterial cultures, is very beneficial for your vagaina’s pH-balance and will help to keep it fresh. Cinnamon is also good for the taste and smell since it has been found to keep it sour and fresh, which will help prevent yeast infections.

Processed food, sugar and alcohol can have a negative effect

Eating food with lots of yeast and sugar, such as processed food, or drinking a lot of alcohol, can make the vagina taste and smell a bit bitter, as well as higher the risk for yeast infections.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t have a few drinks or eat hamburgers, but if not balancing it with other types of food, it may have a negative impact on the smell down there.

Remember that diet isn’t the most important factor

While food has an effect on how our private bits taste and smells, other factors play a bigger role, mainly that you clean your vajayjay correctly by using an intimate soap or preferably only water, and are letting your vagina breathe at times, such as by sleeping naked.

This means that if it smells odd and you think something is off, seek medical treatment, because it can be a yeast infection or STI.

And last but not least – never forget that all vaginas taste and smell differently, and that yours is absolutely lovely!
