Are you missing The L Word extra hard this year? You’re not alone. But have no fear, as there’s now a dedicated team aiming to bring LGBTQIA+ representation to our screens. On the latest episode of the 94% podcast, hosted by Helena Peabody herself Rachel Shelley and sportswoman Nikki Symmons, media giant Pamela Drucker Mann talked about teaming up with The L Word producer Ilene Chaiken in the new media company Run-A-Muck.
The 94% podcast spotlights a number of fabulous women who have all been shaped by sporting experiences in their lives. In fact, statistics say that 94% of women working in C-suite executive roles played sport, half of those at university level. Having already showcased episodes with stars like Jennifer Beals and Adele Roberts, the podcast is a tribute to the power of sport.
Speaking about Run-A-Muck, Pamela said: “[It’s] about creating worlds around culture. Our job is to find IP [Intellectual Property] that we think is like The L Word. Satiating a community. Giving them as much content as they could possibly imagine, in a variety of different formats, at the end of the day using that as a way to enjoy life.”
Last year, it was announced that Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals had teamed together to create their brand new cross-platform queer media brand called Run-A-Muck. The organisation aims to produce content for film, TV, and live events.
Joining this impressive team, Pamela spoke more about the goals of the brand. “From the people that brought you The L Word comes The L World – a slate of completely new series, scripted and non-scripted, short form and long form, connected to talent that we’re all excited to see.”
While rumours of a new series of The L Word have been floating around ever since the sequel show – The L Word: Generation Q – ended in 2023, nothing has ever been confirmed. First released in 2004, The L Word provided vital representation and visibility to sapphics everywhere.
