To say that G Flip’s latest music video is iconic is perhaps an understatement. The Aussie singer and drummer has just dropped the accompanying video for their track Big Ol’ Hammer right in time for Pride Month – and we’re obsessed.

Starring Shannon Beveridge, Jacqueline Toboni, Kath Ebbs and comedian Fortune Feimster, the track sees G Flip and a bunch of our favourite queers getting rather sweaty and oily. What’s the song about, you ask? Let’s just say that it’s about being with someone who makes you feel like you’ve got a giant hammer swinging somewhere below the belt… The campy track is all sorts of gender-affirming fun. This new track follows the release of Disco Cowgirl which saw the star head into a bold new era of music.

Speaking to DIVA about the new track, G Flip revealed how fun it was to write. “It’s such a fun, queer anthem. I wrote it with two of my queer friends. We’d been drinking and were just dancing around the room.”

Having written over 100 songs for this new era of music, G Flip admitted that the song had initially started as a joke. “It was just too much fun,” G Flip told DIVA. “This song is just about having fun. I want people to come to the live shows and get involved in the crowd interaction parts.”

G Flip broke the internet last year with a sapphic cover of Taylor Swift’s hit song Cruel Summer as well as the release of their album DRUMMER. While still retaining their signature drumming, this new music venture sees G Flip head to new ground for inspiration. When asked whether we could expect any songs about their wife and Selling Sunset star Chrishell, G Flip remained coy. “These first two releases have been more on the colourful side, but you’ll see that there will be songs that tug on the heartstrings a bit more. There are songs about sex. There are songs about loss. There are songs about my sweet darling Chrishell as well.”

Released right in the middle of Pride Month, Big Ol’ Hammer gives queer people everywhere something to blast this summer. In a scary time for LGBTQIA+ rights globally, artists like G Flip are here to provide some much-needed happiness. “It’s important to preserve those moments of queer joy,” they said to DIVA. “I feel like now more than ever the community is coming together which is so beautiful in such a horrible landscape of what’s going on in the world.”
