Activist, model and writer Munroe Bergdorf is a trailblazing voice for trans rights in the UK, and we need that voice now more than ever in recent history. Munroe joined Fearne Cotton on today’s episode of the Happy Place podcast to discuss the recent backsliding of trans rights, culture wars and activism.

On the recent UK Supreme Court trans ruling, Munroe said: “It reads like segregation and when you’ve got that looming, it’s very difficult to not spiral into despair.” She went on talk about the impact of culture wars, saying: “I think that the trans community are a very beneficial scapegoat.”

“You’re never going to get used to someone screaming in your face that you suck and that you’re barely human and that you deserve to die and that impacts everybody but I think when you’re in the public eye you stop looking for it,” the trailblazer said on the pressures of being an activist.

Munroe inspires so many different types of young trans women. When addressing helping upcoming trans influencers, she stated: “I want people to know that I ride for the dolls, I ride for my sisters.”

While the issues discussed in this episode are quite heavy, especially considering the state of the world around us, there was plenty of hope to be found within it. “I’ve got faith that time does reveal idiocy,” shared Munroe. “I’ve also got faith in the kindness of people.”
