Reneé Rapp has sapphics in a frenzy after she revealed the iconic story of how she met her girlfriend Towa Bird. On a new episode of Good Hang With Amy Poehler, the singer said that Towa was “so fucking mean” to her the first time they met – but she “loved it”.
Last year, the internet went crazy for Reneé and Towa’s hard launch, which led to multiple steamy performances on stage during her Snow Hard Feelings Tour. In this new interview, Reneé opened up about how “fucking cool” she thought Towa was the first time they met.
“She’s from the UK, so her humour is super different, but she is also such a bitch,” Reneé added. “She topped a top. She out flirted me.”
And what does out-topping a top look like in flirting? Apparently, there was a lot of chat about cars. When Towa spoke about the type of car she drove, Reneé casually said “I wouldn’t peg you as someone who would drive that kind of car” to which Towa replied, “Oh, you don’t wanna peg me?”.
Now we’re blushing!
Reneé also spoke about her choice to come out as a lesbian on SNL. “At that time, I was very publicly bisexual, I had been for a very long time,” she said. “In private, I was talking with my girlfriend and a lot of my friends for the last maybe eight months before that, of being like, ‘I actually don’t really feel very bi at the moment, I feel very much like a lesbian.’”
For Reneé, the word “lesbian” felt euphoric, and she asked the SNL cast if they could change the wording of her iconic skit from “little bisexual intern” to “little lesbian intern”.
“Labelling yourself publicly is really, really empowering, and also I think can be kind of intimidating. It feels so good for me right now, and I don’t want to go by something that doesn’t feel correct, but I’m also going to give myself the willingness to be [open to change],” she continued.
