The Cannes Film Festival wrapped up this weekend and what a festival it was! This year’s selection saw a number of LGBTQIA stories and creators shine, including Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut and a follow-up to last year’s gloriously sapphic film, Drive Away Dolls

Following the festival, here are our picks for what to watch out for…

Honey, Don’t!

Ethan and Tricia Coen brought Drive Away Dolls to cinemas last year and this is the next film in their “lesbian B-Movie trilogy”. Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza star as a sapphic private investigator and police officer, who join forces to investigate the death of a young woman and have lots of passionate sex on the way.

The Little Sister

This year’s Queer Palm winner is this French coming-of-age drama. Fatima is the youngest girl in a French-Algerian family and heads off to Paris for university. While there, she struggles to figure out who she is, especially when her attraction to women comes into conflict with the loyalty she feels to her family.

The Chronology Of Water

Kristen Stewart’s first go at directing opened at Cannes. It features Imogen Poots as a swimmer, Lidia, who uses the water as a way to escape her life and the memories of her childhood. As she begins to write as well, she finds her way out of self-destructive tendencies and turns her trauma into art.

Love Me Tender

Nominated for a Queer Palm, this film follows Clémence. Long-separated from her husband, Laurent, Clémence has joint custody of their son Paul. But when she starts a new relationship with Sarah, her ex tries to take full custody.
