It certainly is a sapphic summer with Out & Wild coming back to the South West this June! The UK’s biggest festival for LGBTQIA women and non-binary people is making its way to North Devon, bringing a fantastic line-up with it – including some of our favourite sapphic creatives.
The line-up for Out & Wild is stacked with fantastic names. Book lovers will be excited by a talk with Elizabeth Lovatt, author of Thank You For Calling The Lesbian Line, and a session with DIVA’s editor-in-chief Roxy Bourdillon, who will be talking about her incredible memoir What A Girl Wants: A (True) Story Of Sexuality And Self-Discovery.
Ahead of her debut book, historian Paula Akpan will also be giving a talk. Another incredible voice in attendance is Raga D’Silva, who will lead an intersectional panel about what family means to the LGBTQIA community. For a rib-tickling comedy set, watch out for Hannah Brackenbury, who has delighted Brighton audiences for 15 years, and Mary O’Connell, who spent last year supporting Tig Notaro on her UK tour.
The aim of the festival is to build a “Pride in the Country” with a focus on outdoor experiences. As such, there will also be lots of activities available, including wild swimming and archery. It will be happening from 13-16 June near Bideford, North Devon.
This year, Out & Wild will also be running Sapphic Voices, a programme they’ve devised with The F-List, to find the next queer female and non-binary music talent in Devon and Cornwall. Up and coming queer musicians from the South West can send a video of themselves playing to Out & Wild and six lucky winners will be able to play live at the festival. They will also receive mentoring from The F-List and be able to play again at Plymouth, Cornwall and Exeter Pride in the following year.
