Drive Away Dolls fans, you have been summoned! Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza will be playing sizzling hot lesbian detectives in Ethan Coen’s latest film Honey Don’t! The trailer dropped yesterday… and let’s just say we’re counting down the days till its release.
Having previously been dubbed as part of a “lesbian B-movie trilogy” following the sapphic classic Drive Away Dolls, this new film follows a detective (Qualley) and police officer (Plaza) who go about investigating a suspicious church and potential cult.
The gorgeously chaotic trailer shows Margaret as a hard-as-nails detective who is looking for the truth (while looking incredible at the same time). We also see Aubrey briefly in the trailer doing some not-so-subtle flirting with Margaret’s character at the police station, hinting that there’s definitely some sapphic scenes to follow.
Starring Chris Evans as a potentially very kinky cult leader, Honey Don’t! promises readers all the action, humour and camp that Drive Away Dolls embodied. The previous film, starring Margaret and Geraldine Viswanathan, saw two lesbian best friends get caught up in a criminal scheme while going on a road trip.
In a recent interview with i-d about the upcoming film, Margaret said that she had to dial back her “natural Scooby-Doo” inclinations to play the leading role. “Honey, she’s like honey she’s skillful, she’s smooth, she is slipping in and out undetected,” Margaret added when speaking about her role.
Fans were quick to respond to the trailer’s release, with one user writing on X: “I am so ready.” Another responded to a still from the trailer of a very masc-looking Aubrey with: “Just fell to my knees.”
There’s no mystery here: the sapphics are clearly excited.
Honey Don’t! will be coming to cinemas on 22 August.
