Spring has finally sprung. As the flowers bloom and the trees finally start to regain their leaves, we’re gearing up for another month of LGBTQIA releases across all platforms. Whether you’re in for a feel-good comedy or a sapphic-coded mystery, here are some of the films and TV series that you should add to your watchlist now.

The Wedding Banquet (UK release)

9 May

In this riotous new romantic comedy, a gay man and a lesbian strike a deal: he gets a green-card marriage, and she gets in vitro fertilisation treatments – sound like a fair trade right? Directed by Andrew Ahn, The Wedding Banquet is a remake of the 1993 film of the same name. It will star Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang in the lead roles, and it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser of a film.

Nonnas

9 May

Susan Sarandon fans, now is your time to shine! Nonnas is a heartfelt comedy where Joe Scaravella (Vince Vaughn), grieving his mother’s death, opens an Italian restaurant in New York City. He hires local grandmothers as chefs to honour her memory, creating a warm, food-filled journey of healing, family, and second chances.

Juliet & Romeo

9 May

Okay, we know that Romeo & Juliet is one of the straightest love stories ever. But this new musical adaptation by Timothy Scott Bogart does feature queer icon Rebel Wilson. Giving us the Pitch Perfect x Shakespeare crossover we never knew we needed, Rebel will be playing the role of Lady Capulet.

Betty and Joan’s

21 May

David, Kate, and Jeremy, founders of the UK’s first permanent queer comedy club, face their biggest challenge yet: building a new gay bar, Betty & Joan’s. Amid leaky ceilings, construction chaos, and lively love lives, their journey blends humour, heart, and queer community spirit in this hilarious real-life adventure.

Sirens

22 May

Sirens serves luxury, danger, and serious queer tension! When no-nonsense Devon (Meghann Fahy) visits her sister Simone (Milly Alcock) at a dreamy island estate, she finds Simone completely under the spell of her glamorous, manipulative boss Michaela (Julianne Moore). Think sapphic obsession, mind games, culty beach vibes, and a lot of emotional chaos. Can Devon break the spell, or will she get sucked into Michaela’s magnetic – and maybe romantic – undertow too?

Big Mouth season eight

23 May

In Big Mouth’s final season, LGBTQIA stories take centre stage. Jessi explores her attraction to women, Ali continues navigating life as a proud pansexual teen, and Maury and Connie’s queer-coded chaos evolves. Themes of identity, acceptance, and enthusiastic consent are front and centre as the teens grow into themselves.
