Outcome is a welcoming LGBTQIA+ drop-in space for mental health support for anyone in London. If you would like to find out more you can email outcome@islingtonmind.org.uk or visit their website https://www.islingtonmind.org.uk/our-services/outcome/
Trans+ and non-binary communities can often feel isolated or excluded from some LGBTQIA+ spaces. Thatās why Outcome, a service as part of Islington Mind, is determined to create a place where everyone feels included. Based in North London, Outcome provides a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people to get support with their mental health, make friends, and live authentically.
Dalbert has been going to Outcome for the last 25 years, and despite now living in Brighton, they still come to the Finsbury Park base to lead the trans and non-binary group there. At the time they joined, Dalbert was looking for a social group to find community.
Alongside a number of social groups that take place at Outcome, the trans and non-binary group allows participants to share stories and air any challenges they have been struggling with.
āI basically set it up at the time because I realised that we had a women’s group, we had a men’s group, but at the time we didn’t have a trans and non-binary group,ā Dalbert tells me. Outcome is member-led, and anyone is welcome to start important groups and activities.
Now the group operates to ensure that no one is left behind. Acting as a safe and inclusive space, Dalbert smiles when talking about the number of people who are now attending every session. In these scary and turbulent times, where trans+ rights are being continually attacked globally, having a place like Outcome to come to has massively helped Dalbert.
āIt keeps your mental health good, so you don’t get too depressed,ā they explain. āAnd it’s nice to have some socialising to do. It’s important to have that space where you can all come together and be there for each other.ā
It can be especially daunting for trans+ and non-binary people to trust a new space. But Dalbert reassures that Outcome is for everybody. āI don’t think there’s anything to be nervous of here,ā they say. āIt’s just a case of getting to know each other.ā
Dalbert hopes in the future that even more people will join Outcomeās trans and non-binary group, and keep this vital space alive for more generations of people to come.
