The trans-inclusive Vagina Museum has launched an emergency crowdfunding appeal to help keep its doors open. The world’s first museum dedicated to gynaecological anatomy is asking supporters to help keep their mission of education and empowerment alive.

Last week, The Vagina Museum announced that they were only one month away from closing permanently due to a large rent payment due at the end of March. Initially trying to raise £60,000, the museum managed to smash their target goals. Now, as they look to the future, the Museum is continuing to fundraise to keep their efforts alive for the long term.

Their most recent exhibition Menopause: What’s Changed? was visited by 1,700 people despite the lack of interest from arts and heritage funders. The Museum continues to play a crucial role in breaking down taboos and stereotypes and has solidified itself as a space that is LGBTQIA-inclusive.

Partnering with creative agency BBH, The Vagina Museum has launched its fundraising campaign The Vagina Heist. Borrowing famous works from renowned London museums on posters, The Vagina Museum has put the QR code to their crowdfunding page to help direct people to support their work.

Zoe Williams, Director of the Vagina Museum, said:  “We stand defiant in a world that needs us, even when it does not always want us. This is a critical moment. If we do not meet our fundraising target, we will determine how best to use the funds raised – whether to sustain operations for a few more months while seeking longer-term funding or to explore alternative ways to continue our work. But to survive, we need your help now.”

The Vagina Museum is continually breaking down barriers and bringing education to the forefront of the work they do. It’s vital that this LGBTQIA-inclusive information is available to the general public.
