Rising star Louise Young will be taking her hilarious show Feral around the country this Spring, starting with her hotly anticipated home show at the Tyne Theatre on 14 March.

Following its sold out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Louise’s show Feral dives into all things chaotic and messy. Within hilarious anecdotes and stories, Louise takes audiences through a number of complex themes such as class, coming out, and mental illness.

Having supported the likes of Alan Carr, Tom Allen and Jason Manford on their tours, Louise’s tour is set to showcase why she’s one to watch on the comedy scene. Ahead of her upcoming tour, we sat down with Louise to find out more about what inspired her new show.

What inspired your show Feral?

It’s called Feral because I realised I had quite a lot of wild stories! You see so many comedians come to the Fringe to do their first show and you can tell they’re trying to scrape together and exaggerate experiences, so I thought it would be stupid to not put all my ridiculous escapades into the show that’s meant to introduce me.

As a lesbian comedian, what’s been your experience telling jokes about your identity on stage?

I do genuinely think lesbians cheer people up. I think people tend to find me quite cheery. Comedy audiences are quite savvy and are aware of the tropes and stereotypes. It does nothing but help me create comedy.

In the theme of the show, have you ever had anything feral happen on stage?

At Edinburgh Fringe, the room was so small that if people had to leave the room they would have to walk across the stage. One time this poor girl came to my show, stood up, and projectile vomited across the stage. I enjoyed it because it took the attention off me. That’s my audience.

You’ve got some amazing venues on this tour. How excited are you to bring the show back home to Newcastle?

It’s going to be amazing. It’s the first show of the tour, so I’m starting with the most daunting, exciting one. It’s going to be amazing. I can’t really get my head around the fact that there are so many people who want to see me. From what I hear, I think I could say hello to half the people coming on the street. It’s going to be absolutely wonderful.

If you had to sum up the show in a sentence, how would you?

Chaos, class, and coming out.
