UK Black Pride (UKBP) have announced on Instagram that they will be celebrating their 20th anniversary this year on 10 August at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This will be the fourth year that the annual celebration of LGBTQIA people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern descent will be held in the same space.
Co-founded by Lady Phyll in 2005, UKBP has become Europe’s largest celebration for LGBTQIA people of African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and Caribbean heritage, bringing thousands of people together every year. There is no doubt that its 20th anniversary celebration will bring this day to new heights.
Last year, UKBP was home to a number of incredible acts, including the likes of comedian Thanyia Moore, DJ Kaylee Golding, and dancer Trayvaughn.
For last year’s Lesbian Visibility Week, UKBP released their inaugural Black Lesbian Power List which shone a much-needed spotlight on Black lesbians. Speaking about the Power List, Lady Phyll said: “That desire to be seen, when the world tries so hard to make Black LGBTQIA people invisible, still burns bright within me. That’s why it’s so important to turn the spotlight on the Black lesbians who exemplify leadership, positive influence and support within our communities.”
UKBP has not released any more information yet about this year’s celebration.
