We’re still in love with these updates a year on!

Throughout 2024, our feeds were blessed with some romance-novel-worthy love stories from the sport of women’s football. From engagements and weddings to pregnancy announcements, love was certainly in the air for some of our favourite stars.
To celebrate some of these lovely moments on and off the pitch, here are 10 WOSO couple moments we adored from 2024.
Kristie Mewis and Sam Kerr’s baby announcement
Chelsea forward Sam Kerr and West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis have been a fan-favourite WOSO couple since they got together during the pandemic.
On 18 November, the pair announced they were having a baby via Instagram with Sam sharing snaps of the two with ultrasound pics in a photobooth.
The photo was captioned “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!”
Rachel Daly and Sarah Mayling engagement
The couple, who both play for WSL team Aston Villa, announced their engagement on Instagram on the 29 November. They first met when Daly was signed to the Villains back in 2022, and the pair have been publicly dating since 2023. Mayling proposed by tying a bandana around their dog’s neck adorned with the question “Will you marry mummy?” Daly captioned their Instagram announcement “It’s giving forever, easiest YES!!”
Jess Carter and Ann Katrin-Berger engagement
Jess Carter and Ann Katrin-Berger first met when they were both playing at Birmingham City in 2016. After moving in together as friends, their relationship slowly became romantic and the duo have been inseparable ever since, continuing to play together at Chelsea and now Gotham FC.
They announced their engagement on the 26 May, with Carter taking to instagram to say “7 years down forever to go”. The comments were flooded with support from fans and fellow players, with Mary Earps commenting “FAVES” and their former team Chelsea commenting “Congratulations to you both!”
Alba Redondo and Cristina Monleón engagement
In June, Spanish forward Alba Redondo proposed to her girlfriend Cristina Monleón at Levante UD’s stadium, Estadio Ciutat de València. The pair got to know each other when Cristina became a physio for the Spanish national team. In true footballer style, Redondo’s wedding proposal flashed on the jumbotron: “Te quieres casar conmigo?” Redondo then got down on one knee, holding up a ring, a photo of the pair kissing after her World Cup success in the backdrop of the proposal.
Bethany England’s hen do
Tottenham and England midfielder Bethany England is due to marry her partner, Oxford United midfielder, Stephanie Williams in 2025. In December, England celebrated her Hen Do alongside teammates past and present. Adorned in a chicken costume, she might have taken the term “hen do” a little too literally!
Emily Van Egmond’s wedding
Matilda’s star Emily Van Egmond tied the knot with partner Kat in December. The pair met online in 2022 and were engaged a year later. Their wedding was full of WOSO stars, with the likes of Sam Kerr, Kristie Mewis, Libby Copus-Brown, Kristen McNabb, and Alanna Kennedy all in attendance.
LGBTQIA soccer power couple Marta and Carrie Lawrence announce engagement
In August, fresh off winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Brazilian soccer legend Marta received another prize, as she and Orlando Pride teammate Carrie Lawrence announced their engagement on social media.
Marta and Lawrence have been together for two years, first meeting when Lawrence joined the Orlando Pride in 2020.
“My forever,” Lawrence posted to Instagram in a series of beautiful photos announcing the engagement as the women each took turns getting on a knee and proposing.
Lauren Hemp and Ashley Hodgson shared a date at the palace!
When you think of the ideal date location, a palace is one of the most far-fetched ideas to come to mind. However, when Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp was awarded an MBE in May for services to football, she brought her girlfriend, Sheffield United midfielder Ashley Hodgson, right along with her.
The pair, who have been dating since 2023, shared several snaps of them together at the palace, with Lauren captioning the post: “WOW! What a proud day for me and my family 
Manuela Zinsberger became a mother
In July, Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger and partner Madeleine welcomed baby Marvis into the world. The pair married in June 2023, and announced they were having a baby later that year. They announced the pregnancy on Instagram, posting: “Our family is now growing and we couldn’t be happier. Little Baby Zinsberger is on its way.” Since then, the pair have shared numerous snaps of the tot, showcasing their journey into motherhood.
Martha Thomas and Ellie Leek tied the knot
In December, Martha Thomas from Spurs tied the knot with Stoke midfielder Ellie Leek in a gorgeous glasshouse wedding. The two met while both playing for French side Le Havre in 2018, and announced their engagement back in December 2022. Martha’s Tottenham teammates were at the wedding to celebrate their big day, with plenty of their football colleagues taking to Instagram to express their congratulations.
