For hardcore #Sukeve fans, it’s been a whirlwind few episodes. Last year, it was announced that Suki and Eve would finally be tying the knot. However, as we’re talking about EastEnders, it was clear that it wouldn’t just be plain sailing.
With Suki’s ex-husband Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) ready to seek revenge, it would only be a matter of time before this sapphic couple’s dream day was impacted in some way.
In the New Year’s Day episode yesterday (1 January), fans watched Nish attempt to poison Eve’s drink at the wedding, able to finally get his revenge. In even more chaos, moments later Nish was seen to pull Suki over a railing with him.
For those of you who haven’t gone ahead to watch tonight’s episode on BBC iPlayer yet, click off now. In today’s installment, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as both Suki and Eve are rushed to hospital. It becomes clear that Nish took the brunt of Suki’s fall, and Eve was provided with an antidote to the poison. After multiple attempts to break Suki and Eve up, Nish’s final act – pushing himself and Suki over the railing – led to the end of his life.
With Nish out of the picture, both Suki and Eve will be able to finally enjoy their beautiful partnership as a married couple.
Before the highly anticipated wedding episode, Heather Peace – who plays Eve – spoke about the importance of showcasing Suki and Eve’s relationship. “For EastEnders to allow the space for this story to evolve has been quite something,” she said. “It’s happened in real time. And as an actor who has never been involved in soap, long term, it’s been the thing that I take away as what’s precious about the genre. The time. The history. The space for nuance.”
Fans quickly took to social media to express their reactions to the dramatic episode, with many saying they were on the edge of their seats.
