It’s truly the happiest season of all with all these queer things to watch

There’s only a few days left until Christmas and that means Happiest Season is due for a rewatch. Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis and Aubrey Plaza are incredible in this festive film about two lesbians who pretend to be “just roommates” for the holiday period, as one isn’t out to her parents.
If you’ve already watched the film, here are some other things to bring you into the New Year!
The Holiday Club
Rejoice! This year has brought us a new sapphic Christmas film. The Holiday Club is Tello’s latest offering and sees baker Bailey and programmer Sam clash over their opinions of holidays (all of them from New Year to Christmas). But as they spend more time together, they grow closer, meaning this holiday season may be the best one of all.
But I’m A Cheerleader
There are so many ways in which But I’m A Cheerleader is the perfect companion watch for Happiest Season. The latter was directed by Clea DuVall, while the former featured her as Graham, the iconic love interest for Natasha Lyonne’s pom-pom waving lesbian.
It’s also a story that sees lesbians attempt to appear straight with hilarious consequences. Ultimately, both are a story about embracing who you are, regardless of what other people might or do think.
Let It Snow
Sapphic storylines aren’t often seen in Christmas films but there’s quite a sweet one in Netflix’s Let It Snow. Sort of like a Midwest American version of Love Actually, several stories collide and overlap in this film. One of them sees Dorrie, a waitress, who had the night of her life with Kerry. But when Kerry walks into her cafe, she pretends Dorrie means nothing. Can the magic of Christmas bring them together?
Schitt’s Creek
It’s the only show on this list but it’s a good one. Though only one side character, Ronnie, is sapphic, Schitt’s Creek is not short of incredibly queer storylines or actors. It also features several queer actors, including Emily Hampshire. The way coming out to your parents is dealt with in the show is truly beautiful, as it is in Happiest Season.
