What happens when a holiday-hating computer programmer moves next door to a holiday-loving baker? You get Tello Films’ new Christmas classic The Holiday Club, a charming, fresh take on a sapphic festive flick.
Written and directed by Alexandra Swarens, The Holiday Club is redefining the Christmas genre. When a mistaken pastry delivery brings baker Bailey (Alexandra Swarens) and lonely programmer Sam (Mak Shealy) together, they clash on their opinions on holidays. While Bailey can’t get enough of them, Sam is always waiting for disaster to strike. Through a few hilarious and touching mishaps throughout the year, audiences can see Sam and Bailey slowly realise that maybe there’s more to their connection than friendship.
This sweet holiday romance has all the hallmarks of your comfort Christmas watch. There’s a small town bakery, loveable side characters, and a whole bunch of charming jokes to complement the brewing romance at hand.

However, what The Holiday Club does differently is its approach to the central love story. Unlike other sapphic stories which see the pair instantly connect, we get to watch Sam and Bailey fall in love slowly. Their friendship is explored throughout the film, making the connection between the pair feel incredibly real. Both Swarens and Shealy masterfully convey the feelings of secret longing for a friend in a way that feels not only authentic, but touching.
Produced and distributed by Good Deed Entertainment, The Holiday Club gives us a Christmas film that feels festive without being all jingle bells and tinsel. It’s a unique viewing experience to see the couple follow the key holidays of the year, each one punctuated with a new milestone for the couple.
It’s not always plain sailing for the couple, with a few bumps along the way, which makes it all the more satisfying to watch. The film also is remarkably funny, with both Swarens and Shealy injecting dry humour into their characters’ interactions.
