Sapphics, are you ready to see Abbi Jacobson star in the new Netflix series No Good Deed? Coming out on 12 December, the show follows three families vying to buy the same house. This dark comedy show will see just how far a couple will go to secure their dream house. Abbi is playing one half of the lesbian couple eyeing up the property. The A League Of Their Own and Broad City star has become a queer icon, but how much do you actually know about the actor?
Here are six things you should know.
She is a published author
When she’s not on screen, Abbi is a published author with an impressive collection of works. One of these works includes her personal essay collection entitled I Might Regret This where she reflects on love, loss, work and comedy. She also published an illustrated book called Carry This Book which brings to life actual and fictional items found in the pockets, purses, bags and glove compartments.
She’s voiced several animated characters on screen
While we may be used to seeing Abbi’s face on TV, she’s actually been behind the voice of many beloved animated characters. She’s starred in everything from Netflix’s Disenchantment to The Lego Ninjago Movie.
She actually does love baseball
The fan favourite show A League Of Their Own showcased the formation of a women’s professional baseball team during the Second World War. It became a cult classic within sapphic spaces, and fans everywhere were devastated to hear that it hadn’t been renewed. But did you know that Abbi is actually passionate about baseball when the cameras stop rolling? As well as being one of the leads, she was also a writer, producer and co-creator of the show. She’s said in interviews since the show premiered that she can’t play baseball in real life with the cameras rolling as she gets too nervous.
She is passionate about podcasting
As if she wasn’t busy enough, Abbi also dedicates her time to podcasting. Partnering with the prestigious Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Abbi runs a podcast called A Piece Of Work which dives into all the questions you were too afraid to ask about modern art. Talk about range!
She started Broad City on YouTube
Before Broad City became the forever quotable classic – which is still showing its timelessness with clips going viral on TikTok – it was a web series posted on YouTube by Abbi and Ilana Glazer. The show was based on their own experience living in New York trying to “make it”. They began posting in 2010 and received good feedback from fans before it was picked up by Amy Poehler and pitched to Comedy Central.
She absolutely loves stationery
It’s no surprise that someone who has released a colouring book is a big fan of stationery, but did you know that Abbi is quite particular about what she uses? In an interview with Vice, she said that her favourite paper is bristol paper. She also described herself as a “pen head” with Prismacolor, Staedtler, Uniball, and Micron as her top four pens.
