After noticing a lack of inclusive sexual wellness products tailored to the LGBTQIA+ people of colour community, Delwyn founded Supi and Kink as a space to help explore gender affirmation through intimacy. Not only that, Delwyn was going to flip the idea of a sex shop on its head, dedicating the space to addressing mental health, distress, trauma, gender, racial and disability justice through pleasure.
Supi and Kink is one the trailblazing organisations that have been spotlighted by NYX Professional Makeup’s Proudly Pro-You brand initiative. Partnering with UK Black Pride and Stonewall, NYX Professional Makeup’s initiative aims to platform and support LGBTQIA+ people of colour, alongside amplifying the powerful work that LGBTQIA+ people of colour are doing in our community. The Proudly Pro-You initiative was launched in 2022, aiming to uplift, amplify and support LGBTQIA people of colour community in the UK, and its community organisations.
For organisations like Supi and Kink, this funding has been vital. Through the UK Black Pride Community Action Fund supported by NYX Professional Makeup, Delwyn has been able to put on their “Grief and Rage” workshops to help others explore their emotions.
“These workshops explore intimacy, pleasure, grief, rage and gender expression,” Delwyn explains to NYX Professional Makeup. “Looking at anger and grief as a way to develop self-connection in order to connect better with ourselves and therefore with others.”
“Knowing it [grief and rage] as an expression and not a fixed state has really enabled me to develop this relationship and know where it lands in my body, where my boundaries are. It’s something I want to pass on.”
Supi and Kink offers a new form of sex shop, one that actively works to decolonise perceptions around body image, placing accessibility and inclusivity at the forefront of their work. It is a space that works to affirm and empower the trans and non-binary community, offering a place that is free of stigma.
Rooted in personal experience from the queer community, Supi and Kink is focused on empowerment. “There is joy, and playfulness, that comes from grief and rage, and it’s that simple,” Delwyn explains. “I recognised the space that I was creating, and it really doesn’t exist. There are so many of us that don’t have access to a huge part of ourselves, and I want to change that.”
