The Euphoria star will be playing the iconic boxer in a new biopic

Sapphics have been sent into a frenzy by new pictures of Sydney Sweeney from her upcoming film where she plays queer boxer Christy Martin. The untitled biopic will follow the extraordinary life of Christy who is acknowledged as one of the most prominent and successful female boxers in the US. Alongside Sydney will be Love Lies Bleeding’s Katy O’Brian playing Christy’s boxing rival and wife Lisa Holewyne.
Sydney posted two pictures to Instagram of her looking completely unrecognisable, debuting her new hair and muscular physique. In her caption, she wrote: “Well the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now.”
She continued: “Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honoured to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. More to come soon.”
This role will take a sharp U-turn from Sydney’s previous projects like Euphoria and romcom Anyone But You. While Christy Martin is largely recognised for her incredible boxing career, she also suffered a number of hardships throughout her life. In 2010 her husband at the time attempted to murder her after an argument, and Christy was left fighting for her life.
She went on to marry Lisa Holewyne in 2017, and was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020 – the first year that women were on the ballot.
We absolutely cannot wait to see Sydney Sweeney in this new role, and for her to continue posting thirst trap pictures of her new biceps!
