A new survey by myGwork highlights the critical role visible LGBTQIA role models play in recruiting Gen Z talent, particularly as the university recruitment season kicks off. According to the research, 80% of LGBTQIA Gen Z students and graduates are more likely to accept job offers from companies where LGBTQIA role models and allies are present in leadership positions.
In today’s competitive job market, authenticity and inclusion are paramount for this generation. With nearly one-third of students identifying as LGBTQIA, the importance of diverse representation in the workplace is clearer than ever. Employers lacking visible LGBTQIA figures risk alienating a significant talent pool, the survey warns.
Workplace culture remains a key concern, with 75% of LGBTQIA job seekers expressing reluctance to join companies where they feel they cannot be their true selves. Alarmingly, 48% of LGBTQIA respondents reported witnessing discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in academic or professional settings, and 36% have personally experienced it.
Corporate allyship is no longer just a trend but a decisive factor in talent retention. A substantial 80% of LGBTQIA Gen Zers would hesitate to join companies that recently withdrew support for LGBTQIA issues. Organisations must take meaningful action to foster inclusive environments and combat discrimination.
Recognizing this need, myGwork’s virtual career event, WorkFair 2024, aims to bridge the gap between inclusive employers and LGBTQIA talent. Taking place on 13 November 2024, the event will connect job seekers with employers like Pfizer, JPMorgan Chase, and Warner Bros. Discovery, providing opportunities for career growth in welcoming workplaces.
“Companies that embrace authentic inclusivity will gain a competitive edge in recruitment,” said Adrien and Pierre Gaubert, co-founders of myGwork.
