The much-loved dating show Married at First Sight UK (MAFS UK) is set to include a lesbian couple in their lineup of singles for the second time ever. In an Instagram post shared by MAFS UK host Paul Brunson, the relationship expert revealed the upcoming cast of season nine, which – after a lack of lesbian representation in season eight – once again includes a WLW couple.
For those who aren’t familiar, MAFS is a unique dating show that originated in Denmark, where couples meet for the first time and marry (in all ways but legally) at the altar. After experiencing simulations of married life – including a honeymoon and cohabitation – the end of each season sees the couples decide whether they want to stay married or wouldprefer to part ways.
The second lesbian couple to face the experiment includes Eve, a 31-year-old Northern Irish fitness coach, as well as Charlie, a 30-year-old operations coordinator from Surrey. For Eve, who is said to be “the only lesbian in her small village” in Omagh, it won’t be the first time she has a ring on her finger. In fact, it was after breaking off her engagement to a man that the fitness coach realised she was gay. Meanwhile, Charlie came out at 25 and, following a string of situationships, is now “at the age now where [she] wants to settle down”.
The brides will proceed MAFS UK’s first lesbian couple, Jenna Robinson and Zoe Clifton, who became the first to participate in the dating show during its seventh season. Now, two years later, the pair are equally as loved up as they were during the show, with Clifton and Robinson sharing their plans to get legally married in June this year. In an Instagram post, they wrote: “Now I get to marry my best friend instead of a stranger.”
While there is no concrete start date for season nine of MAFS UK, the show is slated to begin in a few weeks time on E4.
