As Wicked fans count down the days until the new film hits cinema screens, a new teaser trailer has just dropped with the star-studded cast discussing the central themes of the film.
Within the clip called The Powerful Bond Of Friendship, the cast which includes Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey, discusses how friendship is the central theme of the musical film adaptation.
Grande, who plays Glinda the Good Witch in the film, said: “These two very different women just fall completely in love with each other, and that is a mirrored experience of what happened with Cynthia and I.”
Erivo, who plays Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, added: “We just sort of — I just got chills — we both just found each other, I guess. We just got each other immediately.”
The A-listed cast features some of Hollywood’s favourite queer actors, with Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey being proud members of the LGBTQIA community.
Erivo came out as bisexual in 2022 and told the crowd at the Los Angeles LGBT Center Gala earlier this year that she’s proud to be “black, bald-headed, pierced, and queer”
“Elphaba’s story is… about how a colourful, powerful, magical woman—despite being disparaged, demonised, and discriminated against—becomes a hero,” she explained to the audience.
“Wicked is a reclamation and a reimagining of the labels used against her. It is the proclamation of her right to exist in all her power,” she continued. “If that sounds familiar to you, colourful, magical people in this room—it should.”
The new adaptation of the beloved musical Wicked will be split into two parts, with Wicked: Part One out in cinemas on 29 November.
