Fashion and TikTok icon Alex Consani may soon have an award under her belt for “dominating the industry”. The British Fashion Council (BFC) announced on 20 August the nominations for the 2024 Fashion Awards and Consani achieved a nod for Model Of The Year, making her the first trans woman nominated in the category.
The BFC wrote that the Model Of The Year category “recognizes the global impact of a model who, over the last 12 months, has dominated the industry, with an influence that transcends the catwalk.”
Consani is no newbie. The model started her career in 2015 and became the youngest trans model to join an agency at 13 with Slay Model Management.
Since her career skyrocketed in the last few years, the star has not only walked for brands such as Mugler and Marc Jacobs but has amounted to over three million followers and 120 million likes on TikTok.
The California-born model achieved a loyal following on social media after her unpolished and candid approach to posting under the username @captincroook.
Some of her most popular TikToks feature chaotic behind-the-scenes content with celebs such as Troye Sivan joining in.
Consani is the first trans woman to be nominated but not the first trans person to be shortlisted for Model of the Year as last year Kai Isaiah Jamal, who uses they/them pronouns, snagged a nod for the award.
The 2024 BFC Fashion Awards will be held on 2 December at London’s Royal Albert Hall and we’ve got our fingers crossed for Alex.
