From Best New Artist to Video of the Year, LGBTQIA icons decorate this year’s 2024 MTV Video Music Awards nominations.
Despite the majority of the categories being dominated by Taylor Swift and Post Malone with their collaboration Fortnight, queer artists, especially queer female artists, did particularly well this year.
Megan Thee Stallion excelled with five nominations for Best Hip-Hop, Best Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction, as well as Best Collaboration for Wanna Be with GloRilla.
Newly queer icon, Billie Eilish, also gained two nominations in the Video for Good and Video of the Year category with her songs LUNCH and What Was I Made For?.
Lesbian icon, Chappell Roan unsurprisingly earned two nominations for Best New Artist and MTV Push Performance of the Year with her catchy tune Red Wine Supernova.
Victoria Monét received two nominations for her breakout hit On My Mama in the Push Performance and Best R&B category.
Alongside Megan Thee Stallion, SZA gained five nominations for Artist of the Year, Video of the Year and Best R&B for Snooze and Best Collaboration and Best Hip-Hop for her appearance on Drake’s song Rich Baby Daddy.
Additional LGBTQIA artists nominated include Cardi B and Troye Sivan as well as fierce allies such as Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa and Sabrina Carpenter.
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards takes place in New York on 10 September and we’ve got our fingers crossed that these queer icons earn the rewards they deserve.
