The Paris Olympics 2024 have officially started meaning that lesbian icon Clare Balding is once again back on our screens. The broadcaster has covered a number of sporting events during her career including the Commonwealth Games, the Paralympics, Wimbledon, and of course the Olympics.

While you will most certainly see Clare’s face on your screens this summer, she may be missing one important item – her wedding ring. But don’t fear! During the Rio Olympics, fans were quick to point out that Clare was not wearing her wedding ring despite being married to Alice Arnold since 2015.

In response to fans’ worries about their marriage, Alice took to Twitter at the time stating: “I’m amazed how many have noticed @clarebalding is not wearing her wedding ring..don’t worry..it’s safely at home with me…”

Phew! So if you notice the British staple presenter missing her wedding ring this summer, don’t fret. She’s keeping it safe and sound at home. Alice went on to say that the couple felt it to be “unwise” to wear “irreplaceable” jewellery to such a big event.

Clare Balding came out as a lesbian in 2003 and announced that she was in a civil partnership with Alice in 2006. The pair got married in a private ceremony in 2015. They met while working at the BBC.
