Netflix has unveiled plans to create a Pride flag based on queer coming-of-age story Heartstopper. It will be displayed at Queer Britain’s museum when season three launches in October. The flag will consist of messages from fans about the impact Heartstopper has had on their lives.
Fans can share their messages online at heartstopperlove.com. Example messages already appear on the website. Onereads: “To Heartstopper. Thank you for giving me the confidence to be me. Whenever I’m feeling down, I rewatch and my mood is lifted instantly. I’m forever grateful. From: Amy.”
Submissions can also be made in person at a fan pop-up of the main character Charlie Spring’s bedroom. The pop-up will travel to Pride events in Glasgow, Liverpool and Brighton.
Writer and creator Alice Oseman said: “I’m so hopeful that Heartstopper can continue to be a source of inspiration and support for young people, and thrilled that fans’ personal stories will now be immortalised in this piece of artwork.”
Joseph Galliano-Doig, the director of Queer Britain added that the museum was “excited to be displaying artwork which will give fans’ stories a lasting legacy”.
Alice also promised there would be “fun stuff” at the Pride pop-ups. Attendees will also be given access to exclusive sneak previews of the upcoming season and hear personal messages from the cast.
Heartstopper was initially a book series created by Oseman that amassed a cult following. Fans loved the series, and the Netflix adaptation, for its heartwarming and inclusive representation of the LGBTQIA community.
Season two and some of the more recent books also explored mental health issues, such as eating disorders. Alice has hinted that the show will delve further into this topic: “Season three will see [the characters] having to support each other through difficult moments.”
DIVA magazine celebrates 30 years in print in 2024. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.

As a later-life-lesbian, love how Netflix supports the LGBTQ+ community, with stories from different parts of the world. Would like more lesbian stories.
