UK Black Pride will be returning once again to the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 11 August for their annual celebration of LGBTQIA people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern descent. This will be the third year that the event has taken place in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Founded in 2005, UK Black Pride has created a safe space to celebrate diverse sexualities, gender identities, gender expressions and cultures. Celebrating its 19th anniversary this year, the event is set to be bigger than ever. Applications for performers, community stall-holders, food and drink vendors and workshop hosts will be open soon.
UK Black Pride CEO, Phyll Opoku-Gyimah (also known as Lady Phyll), said: “It is with such joy that we can announce our return to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the third year running. It is slowly becoming a great home for our event as we grow bigger and bigger. As we reflect on previous years, we are planning to make this the biggest and the boldest UK Black Pride yet.”
Last year’s UK Black Pride celebrated the theme “Legacy”, with thousands turning up to Queen Elizabeth Park to attend the celebration and protest.
As part of Lesbian Visibility Week, UK Black Pride CEO Lady Phyll curated the inaugural Black Lesbian Power List which aimed to amplify the work of Black queer trailblazers in our community. You can read the full list here.
