Netflix’s beloved LGBTQIA-inclusive show Everything Now has been reportedly axed after just one series. Following the life of 16-year-old Mia (Sophie Wilde), the show explored her readjustment back home after spending time in a hospital due to anorexia.
After the show’s release in October last year, fans were quick to champion it for its queer storylines. However, in an interview with co-writer Dylan Brady for Film Updates, it was announced that the show would not be getting a series two.
“It’s really disheartening to see because I think there’s also a lot of people who refuse to invest in a new show with the knowledge that it might just end up getting cancelled,” Dylan said. “I hope that landscape will change and I hope that we can stop treating art and television as a commodity that’s at the mercy of an algorithm because an algorithm isn’t people, and things often just do take a bit of time. When they’re given the space to grow, they can turn into really wonderful things.”
He also told Film Updates that he had in fact written a script for the show’s second season, making this cancellation all the more upsetting.
Fans took to social media to express their disappointment in yet another show being lost to the #CancelYourGays trend.
