Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for their highly anticipated drama Scoop which charts the story of Prince Andrew’s disastrous interview with Emily Maitlis on the BBC’s Newsnight in 2019. Viewers were particularly excited to see queer icon Gillian Anderson in the role of the iconic journalist, praising her for her complete transformation.

Scoop will follow the story of how the BBC secured the infamous interview in which Maitlis questioned Prince Andrew about his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The interview was quickly dubbed a PR nightmare for the Royal Family.

The Netflix film was based on a book by former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister, who is played by Billie Piper. Alongside Gillian and Billie, Tipping The Velvet icon Keeley Hawes is starring as Prince Andrew’s private secretary Amanda Thirsk. Rufus Sewell is playing the role of Prince Andrew.

Fans of the Sex Education star were rightfully excited about this new role. “Gillian Anderson is back to the Palace as Emily Maitis,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I need some air and coffee and patience until the premiere date.”

“Billie Piper and Gillian Anderson on the same show??? They are two of my longest and biggest celebrity crushes! I’m gonna turn even more gay,” another user gushed.

“You had me at Gillian Anderson,” another said. Truer words have never been spoken.

Scoop will be released on Netflix on 5 April 2024.
