Jodie Foster is one of the most well-known, and well-loved, actors, filmmakers, and celesbians out there. Last year we especially loved her performance as Bonnie Stoll in biopic Nyad, alongside Annette Bening, who portrayed the titular swimmer.
Despite Jodie’s fame, she is notoriously private, and there are probably quite a few things that you already didn’t know about her – so here are eight facts to know about this multi-talented Academy Award winner…
Jodie is actually the actor’s childhood nickname
Her full name is Alicia Christian Foster, but her family gave her the nickname Jodie as a child, and it stuck, so much so that she is known as Jodie in both her personal and professional life.
She is bilingual
She attended a French language high school in her native Los Angeles and speaks fluent French as a result. She even dubs herself in the French language versions of many of her films.
Her illustrious film career began when she was just 10 years old
She starred in the film Napoleon and Samantha, where she played the eponymous Samantha.
She attended Yale University
She isn’t just an incredibly accomplished actor and filmmaker- she also attended one of the world’s most prestigious university, where she majored in African-American literature, graduating magna cum laude, which means she was in at least the top 15% of her class!
Jodie loves skiing
According to a 2018 interview, hitting the slopes is one of her favourite ways to unwind while staying fit.
Her favourite American football team are the Green Bay Packers
For those interested in sports, Jodie has been vocal in her support of Wiconsin-based NFL team the Green Bay Packers!
Being a director was her dream from the age of six
Jodie revealed in an interview at New York Comic Con that she had big ambitions to be in the film industry from a very young age.
Jodie has been married to photographer Alexandra Hedison since 2014, and shares two grown-up sons with her ex-partner, Cydney Bernard
