The Iris Prize Film Festival opened its submissions for the 18th edition of the annual event today (15 January). Supported by The Michael Bishop Foundation, the Iris Prize is the largest LGBTQIA short film prize in the world, with £30,000 available for the winner.

Taking place between 8 – 10 October, the Iris Prize Film Festival 2024 will be hosted in Cardiff. There will be 14 awards up for grabs including the Iris Prize Best British Short and Best Performance In A Female Role In A Feature Film.

Grant Vidgen, Iris Prize Company Manager, said: “We’ve not long said goodbye to Iris for 2023 and now we find ourselves announcing the dates for submissions opening today!”

“Iris18 sees our festival come of age, and we will continue to champion excellence in storytelling from around the world. The platform we offer new and established LGBTQIA filmmakers and stories continue to grow, and we hope that this year we will make Iris and our audiences proud by delivering the best festival ever.”

All entries must be 39 minutes or less and must have been completed within 2 years prior to the submission deadline.

Karimah Zakia Issa’s short film Scaring Women At Night took home the Iris Prize at the 2023 Festival, and Sara Harrak’s short F**KED won the Iris Prize Best British Short sponsored by Film4 and Pinewood Studios.
