We all know that Barbie took over the world in 2023, but its pink grasp over Hollywood is still just as strong in 2024. Billie Eilish has recently taken home two awards for her hit song What Was I Made For over the past week. We hope she’s got enough space in her trophy cabinet for her Chairman’s Award and her shiny new Golden Globe.

The iconic singer mentioned in both acceptance speeches that writing What Was I Made For actually “saved” her.

“It was exactly a year ago almost that we were shown the movie,” Billie said in her Golden Globes acceptance speech for Best Original Song. “I was very, very miserable and depressed at the time. Writing that song kind of saved me a little bit.”

Earlier last week when she took to the Palm Springs International Film Festival stage with her brother Finneas O’Connell to accept the Chairman’s Award for their song, Billie shared a similar sentiment.

“I just want to dedicate to anyone who experiences hopelessness, the feeling of existential dread and feeling like, what’s the point, why am I here and why am I doing this?” the singer said.

She continued: “I want to say to anyone that feels that way, be patient with yourself, and know that it’s worth it all. And I think it’s good to be alive.”

The song What Was I Made For has been streamed over 560 million times on Spotify alone and has been adopted by fans on social media sites like TikTok to ask existential questions about life, love, and growing up.

Barbie also took home the Golden Globe for the first-ever Box Office Achievement due to it being the highest-grossing film of 2023, making over $1.4 billion worldwide.
