RuPaul’s Drag Race has just released a new trailer for the upcoming season, and we have to say, the judges just keep getting more ferocious.
Joining the usual lineup including Carson Kressley, Michelle Visage, Ts Madison, and Ross Mathews, will be Charlize Theron and Becky G. It’s also been reported that other guests coming on to judge the race will include Ronan Farrow, Law Roach, Kyra Sedgwick, and of course, Icona Pop. We’re floored!
Theron’s notable acting career includes roles like Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 lesbian cult classic Monster and Lorraine Broughton in Atomic Blonde. Becky G meanwhile, broke ground for her ‘transformative’ roles in Power Rangers as Trini Kwan, the first queer character. Needless to say, they’re going to make excellent additions.
However, while the real judges will definitely be bringing it, it looks like this year will see the girls pitted against one another to see who’s the best.
According to the new trailer, there’s a bit of an upset to the regular scheduled programming this year with a twist called Rate-A-Queen where contestants have to judge each other’s performances to determine who’s on top, and who’s at the bottom.
The queens themselves have also been announced last week, with quite a few of the 14 contestants representing New York, including Dawn, “elf goddess of Brooklyn”, Geneva Karr, the first ever Mexican-born queen from Texas (slay), and Nymphia Wind, the show’s first Taiwanese contestant.
Although quite a few of the queens are American, several contestants of note have come from the UK. A personal DIVA favourite is Miss Victoria Scone, the first-ever cis-woman and lesbian contestant in Season three. Scone dominated in the first episode before resigning from the show due to an injury.
Kylie ‘Sonique’ Love, another favourite, became the first trans woman to win the grand prize in the US All Stars season six.
The new season is set to premiere on 6 January 2024, and the winner will take home a $200,000 prize in addition to the coveted drag-stardom across America.
UK residents can watch RuPaul on WOWPresents Plus with new episodes every week starting in January.
