The Christmas season isn’t always filled with festive cheer for many in the LGBTQIA community. But on 16 December, Saturday Night Live is sure to make the Yuletide Gay because Kate McKinnon is returning to host a Christmas episode of the staple show.
And if that somehow didn’t spark enough queer cheer, the celesbian actor and comedian will be joined by Billie Eilish (who recently confirmed she is “physically attracted” to women) as the episode’s musical guest.
This will mark the second time Billie has been a musical guest for an SNL Christmas episode. Her first appearance was pure gold, so expectations for the upcoming episode are at an all-time high.
It will be great to see these two share a screen again. They had a great onscreen rapport previously on SNL. And since then they’ve both featured in some way on Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie – Kate playing queer coded “Weird Barbie” and Billie’s song What Was I Made For? being made for the film’s soundtrack. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a potential joke about Barbie’s scissoring. And maybe we’ll get to see Kate make Billie break character again.
This episode will also mark Kate’s hosting debut since leaving the show in 2022. During her time on SNL she has filled so many of us with ab-building laughter and queer joy. A personal favourite was when Kate and Ariana DeBose served up a hilarious Sappho-themed sketch.
We can’t wait to tune in to see what hilarity is in store this time around.
