The trial of two teenagers – a boy and a girl named Y and X for legal protection – who were accused of murdering 16-year-old Brianna Ghey began yesterday (28 November) at Manchester Crown Court. Brianna, who was trans, was found with stab wounds earlier this year in Linear Park, Warrington.
Yesterday the court heard that the two defendants, who both deny the charges, had planned Brianna’s death for several weeks. Prosecutor Deanna Heer said that X sent a picture of a handwritten note stating “Saturday 11th February 2023. Victim: Brianna Ghey” to Y on 3 February, just eight days before Brianna’s murder.
The note was said to be found in X’s bedroom at the time of her arrest. The note also contained a detailed plan of how the pair planned to murder Brianna, and Heer stated that it was “clearly… a plan to kill Brianna Ghey”.
Following this note, the prosecution also showed the court another note found in X’s room which also detailed another plan to murder Brianna. After Brianna’s murder in February, X posted a tribute to Brianna on Snapchat saying: “Brianna was one of the best people I have ever met and such an amazing friend it’s so fucking sickening what got done to her.”
The prosecution also showed the court a number of other conversations between X and Y where they spoke about murdering four other teens prior to Brianna’s death. The conversations contained disturbing comments about murder, cannibalism, and torture.
Neither X nor Y have pleaded guilty to the charges. The jury was told that both teenagers had admitted to being in the park on the day of Brianna’s death, but blamed each other for the murder.
The trial continues.
