Dancing On Ice is returning next year with a star-studded line-up of celebrity contestants, and we’re delighted to see DIVA favourite Adele Roberts confirmed to be taking part in the upcoming competition.
The iconic broadcaster and DJ has been an inspiring force within the community and has used her platform to further LGBTQIA visibility and awareness of bowel cancer.
Back in 2021, the star shared her bowel cancer diagnosis on Instagram and continued to be transparent when sharing her journey post-diagnosis. There was not a dry eye in the room at the 2022 DIVA Awards when Adele secured the DIVA Choice Award and delivered a deeply impactful speech. And two months later, we all celebrated the news that she’d been given the all-clear after her treatment.
Since then she’s continued to share her journey of living with a stoma bag (which she’s named Audrey) and earlier this year, she inspired many when she broke the World Record for finishing the London Marathon with a stoma, finishing the race in three hours 30 minutes and 22 seconds.
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly about competing in Dancing On Ice, Adele said: “Two years ago today I’d just been diagnosed with bowel cancer. I didn’t know what stage cancer I had at the time. I didn’t know if I was going to live or die.
“To think, two years on I’m sat here with you, talking about Dancing On Ice – it’s the greatest feeling n the world.”
When asked if she is the first person to compete on the show with a stoma, she said: “I think I am. Audrey is a diva. She is very excited to see you today, so she’s already been problematic.
“I’ve not seen her on ice yet, but we’re going to find out. all I want to say, Audrey, is, I only want to dance on the ice, I don’t want to be doing anything else on the ice. So stay inside please.”
Adele confessed that she knows that Dancing On Ice will be a “big challenge” but she’s also looking forward to the glam of the show.
Adele commented on the Dancing On Ice official Instagram announcement post, writing, “I am overjoyed to be part of this year’s series. Thank you so much for having me and Audrey on the show. We will give this our all and we hope to make all of our fellow #ostomates proud”.
And ever the supportive partner, Kate Holderness commented “Go Adele & Audrey!”
Adele has proven that she’s an impressively driven individual, and so I’m sure she has what it takes to thrive within the competition. Everyone here at Team DIVA will be cheering her on.
