Last week, exclusive images were released of Sandra Oh’s upcoming film Quiz Lady, and it has sent LGBTQIA Twitter into a frenzy. One of the images shows Sandra as her character Jenny, donning a black one-piece with cutouts across the body, gold jewellery, purple streaks in her hair and matching acrylic nails. The other image shows her wearing a hot pink top with mesh puff sleeves, revealing a large tattoo on her upper arm.

Moments after the images were released fans took to Twitter to voice their excitement at seeing Sandra in such a different style, taking a departure from her usual roles. Her character has been described on IMDB as “chaotic”, and we can’t wait to see her bring this energy.

We don’t know verymuch about the R-rated comedy, but we do know that it follows Anne (Awkwafina) – a reclusive game-show obsessive – who is forced back together with her chaotic sister Jenny (Sandra Oh) after their mother gets into gambling debt. When Anne’s dog is kidnapped, the sisters set off on a cross-country adventure to raise enough funds to pay off their mother’s debt, utilising Anne’s elite game-show knowledge. It sounds epic!

The film has a small but impressive cast, with Jason Schwartzman (Scott Pilgrim vs The World), Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men), Tony Hale (Veep), and Will Ferrell (Anchorman) starring alongside Awkwafina and Sandra. Will Ferrell will also be producing the film.

Sandra, who rose to fame during her role as Cristina Yang in the ABC series Grey’s Anatomy, has been beloved by the LGBTQIA community throughout her career. Her role as Eve in the BBC’s spy thriller Killing Eve won her a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, and a SAG Award, as well as giving her a fierce following of sapphic fans.

The first look announcements of Quiz Lady that were posted across social media already have lots of fans declaring “MOTHER” in the comments, signalling the resounding approval of the LGBTQIA community. Although it is currently unclear as to whether Sandra’s character will be queer, she already seems to be loved by the community for her style and character description.

Quiz Lady will be released on Disney+ on 3 November, and we can’t wait to see a tatted Sandra Oh on our screens.
