It’s a new year, but we’re still obsessed with these babes

King Princess
All hail King Princess. She burst onto the queer music scene back in 2018 after being discovered by Mark Ronson, and 2019 really was her year to shine. King Princess went on to feature on Mark Ronson’s Late Night Feelings album, tour all over the world, sell and release her own debut album, Cheap Queen. Not a bad year then, eh?
Clairo
If there’s one to watch in 2020, it’s Clairo. After coming out on Twitter back in 2018, her fame and success has just kept on escalating. Last year she released her first album, Immunity, providing us with plenty of queer pop bops. We can’t wait for more!
Indya Moore
If you didn’t get mildly addicted to Pose last year, what did you even do with your time? And if your addiction didn’t extend to Indya Moore, you are seriously missing out. Indya plays Angel Evangelista, a transgender sex worker and last year, Indya was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people.
Lizzo
Let’s face it, who wasn’t crushing on Lizzo last year? She’s the singer-songwriter, rapper, and flutist that everyone was talking about. Providing the soundtrack to everyone’s summer with hits such as Good As Hell and Juice, we still haven’t had enough. She has a strong LGBTQI+ following and has even dubbed her fans “Lizzbians”.
Christine And The Queens
2019 was the year of Chris. Christine And The Queens headlined All Points East festival in London, marking her first UK headline festival appearance, and she performed during the season finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Her electric lyrics provide us with gender defying anthems and her shows feel like a safe space free of judgement.
Marika Hackman
Oh Marika, you really were the ultimate queer indie queen last year. With the release of Any Human Friend, Marika said goodbye to any remaining sad folk tunes, instead bringing pure sex and mischief. The video for hand solo was a real highlight and the line “under patriarchal law, I’m gonna die a virgin” just shows how perfectly queer her lyrics are.
Hunter Schafer
Hunter hit our screens as one of the cast members of hit show Euphoria last year. She is a transgender woman, stating, “I do like people to know that I’m not a cis girl, because that’s not something that I am or feel like I am. I’m proud to be a trans person.” Her character, Jules, was also transgender and Hunter collaborated closely with the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, so that her character and the show’s story reflected her experience.
