SUMMARY:Oban Lesbian Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Scotland’s first ever 3 night LGBTQ weekend\, Oban Lesbian Weekend\, launches on August Bank Holiday. \nFirst there was Oban Pride\, now the much hyped Oban Lesbian Weekend this August. There used to be only one gay in the village (according to reports back in the 90’s)\, now it seems like hundreds of LGBTQ women are flocking to this small coastal town for their holidays. \nOban Lesbian Weekend’s founder\, Maz Gordon\, moved back to her home town of Oban 3 years ago after living in Brighton almost half of her life. She was excited to see that Oban had started it’s own pride but at first she found it hard living somewhere which didn’t seem to have any LGBTQ community\, so she decided to bring the lesbians to Oban by launching her own event\, Oban Lesbian Weekend. \n“Women I speak to always say they’d love to come and explore Scotland but Oban is often a couples holiday and never one you would expect to meet other LGBTQ women. I posted on Facebook to see if there would be much interest for a weekend that involved some cocktails\, castles and karaoke in Oban and was shocked that within 3 days of launching\, I’d sold 62 tickets!”. \nOban Lesbian Weekend is offering something for everyone. They are working with local businesses to take their group to see Scottish wildlife on boat tours. Seals\, seagulls and you never know; minky whales and dolphins are known pop up on these boat trips. They are running various walks to suit differing abilities\, so that women can explore Gylen Castle on the island of Kerrera while meeting other LGBTQ women. Weather permitting\, Oban is also a great place to try paddle boarding or kayaking. \nFor those a little less outdoorsy\, Oban Lesbian Weekend is hosting dinners in smaller groups\, catering to all budgets – fine dining in Oban’s newest boutique hotel\, No 17 The Promenade\, pub grub at Markie Dans and plenty of time to stop at the two famous seafood shacks on the pier. \nOban Distillery has been producing Oban Whiskey\, a single malt since 1794\, so of course there is the option to visit the distillery. \nLike any gathering of LGBTQ women\, many will come for the social life. Attendees will be in for a treat. York based\, singer songwriters and Masterchef quarter finalist\, Jess Gardham has performed at English and Welsh lesbian festivals\, Femme Fest and Lfest\, and is coming all the way to Oban to perform on their launch night. It’s not often that Oban gets someone who has performed at Manchester 02 academy\, America and Canada. Attendees will have their own chance to sing at Karaoke\, then local DJ’s make sure everyone is dancing through the nights. The last night’s closing party will have Edinburgh’s legendary LGBTQ Dj\, Trendy Wendy. \nWhat’s not to like! If you’d like to be part of this historic event for Oban\, we believe they still have a few tickets left. \nTickets and info: https://www.outsavvy.com/event/8155/oban-lesbian-weekend-26th-29th-august-2022

SUMMARY:Gaps in the Archive: A day of events telling the LGBT+ (hi)story of Brent
DESCRIPTION:Come along to the Library at Willesden Green and contribute to the Queer history of Brent by sharing your LGBTQAI+ memories and memorabilia. \nBook your place or simply turn up with anything you wish to share. We can collect or scan your objects for the archive if so you wish. Later in the day\, join us for a discussion and sharing event between artist Ed Webb-Ingall and Dr Clifford Williams with respondents from local LGBTQAI+ groups\, who will reflect on the history and importance of LGBTQAI+ safe spaces\, particularly for young people. \nSchedule: \n12-3PM: Archival drop-ins \n3-5PM: Discussion and sharing \nAbout Brent Biennial 2022 & Metroland Cultures \nThe second edition of the Brent Biennial\, In the House of my Love\, brings together artists and community groups whose work explores the many meanings of homemaking. This exhibition asks how\, and why\, the act of making home can be a form of resistance and survival within the context of hostile environments—including those of racism\, homophobia\, ableism\, climate catastrophe and political austerity. \nDrawing its title from a line in poet Ezra Green’s A Poem to the Nationalist Marcher (For the Queer People of Warsaw)\, In the House of my Love takes as a point of departure the various histories and legacies of migration that have made Brent the second most ethnically diverse borough in London\, and a local authority with one of the highest numbers of first-generation migrants in the country. \nThe Brent Biennial is delivered by Metroland Cultures. Our mission is to build\, share and support art and culture in Brent: supporting communities to amplify ongoing stories of Brent life\, and working with artists to tell new stories as they come into form. Our work sits at the intersection of art and community\, and we are committed to testing new approaches that centre partnerships\, strategies and approaches for community and artist collaboration. \nBrent Biennial 2022: In the House of my Love is open and free for all to visit every Thursday – Sunday\, 12 – 6pm between 8 July – 11 September. \nhttps://metrolandcultures.com/whats-happening/programmes/brent-biennial/

DESCRIPTION:East London’s Community-building Social initiative for Queer Women\, Trans\, Intersex\, Nonbinary and Gender NonConforming individuals. \nFollowing on from the beautiful success of the SheHerTheyThem Relaunch in May\, we are back and we are taking over London’s most iconic new Queer venue The Glasshouse on Saturday 10 September\, with an incredible line up of interactive and inclusive community-led workshops\, artists and creatives\, and performers! \nOnce again\, East London’s favourite Community-building Social initiative for Queer Women\, Trans\, Intersex\, Nonbinary and Gender NonConforming individuals is back in style with an afternoon of collaborating\, socialising and uplifting our community\, followed by an evening of live music\, performance\, DJs and dancing til the early hours in safe\, inclusive and welcoming surroundings. \nCOMMUNITY BUILDING HANGOUT – 1-7PM \nWorkshops // Community Building // Interactive Discussion Groups // Queer Makers Stalls // Exhibitions \nBUTCH LINEAGES – BUILDING COMMUNITY HISTORIES / FIND YOUR VOICE with MIRI / DAISY ROOTS MOVEMENT / QUEER LIFE DRAWING / ZINE MAKING / NATURE PRINTING / ABOUT LAST NIGHT PODCAST + MORE \nSH! / RIVER MANNING / CAMP BOOKS / HOT POTATO / POTATO DIARY / THE SHAVEN RAVEN / DOM HOLMES / PHOEBE CALYPSO / LEFTBIANS / BOE LA / LVNDR / CAMP BOOKS + MORE \nSATURDAY SOCIAL – 7PM-1AM \nComedy // Drag // Music // DJ // Designated Quiet & Sober Space // Community Meet-Up // Open Mic \nCHARLIE GEORGE / MISTER WESLEY DYKES / THE MOLLUSC DIMENSION / PRE-T BOY / VICTORIA OLSANA / SIR CUM SIZE + MORE! \nOur mission continues to decentre cis male energy from our Queer community and build a platform for the marginalised and minoritised LGBTQ+ voices in a space that supports and encourages collaboration and connection. Our entry code is simple – no TERFS\, no SWERFS and no Cis Men allowed in the space. Cis Men are welcome to support our community by donating to our causes\, educating themselves on why we need events such as this\, and respectfully allowing us our space. \nSheHerTheyThem operates as a non-profit. Every penny we receive goes back into our community\, whether it’s paying artists for their performances\, helping the charities and organisations with their transport and accessibility costs\, or covering our very basic admin expenses. As an inclusive initiative\, we don’t charge the organisations for the space to share their work and connect with our community. Our events are funded through donations and our pay-what-you-can policy. No donation is too small (or too big of course) but your generosity helps us to help others. We aim to pay artists a fair fee\, to support organisations that have big hearts but small funding\, and to ensure no one feels excluded from our community due to financial constraints. \n*please note that regrettably the downstairs space at the GlassHouse is not wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:I\, Joan at The Globe Theatre
DESCRIPTION:A cry for courage erupts in the Globe Theatre this summer with the premiere of I\, Joan\, a powerful and joyous new play which tells Joan of Arc’s story anew. \nThe men are all fighting\, again. An endless war. From nowhere\, an unexpected leader emerges. Young\, poor and about to spark a revolution. This is Joan. \nRebelling against the world’s expectations\, questioning the gender binary\, Joan finds their power and their belief spreads like fire. \nJoin us in the wooden ‘O’ and feel the heat of the sun and the pulse of Joan’s passion. With open hearts and raised voices\, dance and cheer with us as we rediscover Joan’s story. It’s alive\, queer and full of hope. \nWritten by Charlie Josephine (Bitch Boxer) and directed by Ilinca Radulian (Co-Director\, Richard III\, Globe). \n Content guidance: This production contains loud noises and music\, strong language and swearing throughout\, partial nudity\, references to sexual abuse\, misgendering\, and depictions of war and violence.
