This is a dynamic flowy class with an emphasis on connecting body movement with the breath. Perfect way to wake up the mind and body in the morning ready for the day ahead. Tamsin’s teaching style aims to be inclusive to all people whilst adopting a trauma-informed\, body acceptance approach. The class will include asana (yoga postures)\, pranayama (breathing practices) and meditation in order to adopt a true and full yoga experience. This class is suitable for all levels! \nWhy queer and trans specific yoga? \nTamsin says \n“I believe that yoga should be accessible to everybody and as a queer person of colour I understand the feeling of being othered in yoga/wellness/spiritual spaces. So\, I decided to become a yoga teacher with the aim of making yoga more accessible to communities that would not normally enter a yoga studio due to the cis/hetronormative nature of the western wellness world. Yoga has provided me with a great amount of healing and I hope to share this with others that may also benefit from the practice. Our community deserves to have a safe\, supportive and non-judgemental environment where we can allow ourselves to be vulnerable and explore this life changing practice! I would also love to see more sober queer events and spaces focused around improving our wellbeing!”

SUMMARY:The Story of Elizabeth Gaskell’s House from Dereliction to Delight
DESCRIPTION:October 2024 was the 10-year anniversary of Elizabeth Gaskell’s House being opened to the public following its restoration. It took many years of fundraising and determination from a dedicated group of volunteers to get to where we are today. \nTo celebrate this milestone a new exhibition has been created using oral history interviews from some of the people involved. From Janet Allan\, who led the campaign\, to Frank Galvin\, the self-dubbed ‘House detective’\, this new exhibition delves into the personal stories and memories of those who played a part in saving this much loved House. \nThe story will take you from the near dereliction of the early days and the battles that had to fought to ensure its survival\, right up to the beauty of the building and museum today\, via servings of cake and lifelong friendships. It is a true underdog story that involved many different people who all came together to save the House. \nThe centrepiece to the exhibition is an anniversary quilt created by textile artist Dr Sarah-Joy Ford who has been inspired by the stories and recollections shared through the project. \nDr Sarah-Joy Ford is an artist\, researcher and quiltmaker working with textiles to explore the complexities and pleasures of queer communities\, histories and archives. Her practice sits at the intersection of digital and traditional: using strategies of quilting\, digital embroidery\, digital print\, applique and hand embellishment.  Sarah-Joy’s involvement in the project has been supported by funding from The University of Manchester – SALC Social Responsibility Award. \nIncluded in admission to the House.

Tamsin’s teaching style aims to be inclusive to all people whilst adopting a trauma-informed\, body acceptance approach. She believes in the healing power of connecting to nature through yoga and how this should be accessible to all of us!
