Here’s DIVA’s ultimate run down to finding your crush
BY DAISY DEMPSEY
We get it. The golden age of dating apps has passed. What once felt new and exciting is now repetitive, with eternal ghostings and dead-end chats. It’s no surprise that many of us are logging off in favour of stepping back into a revived in-person dating scene. So, if you’re looking for that spark of connection, friendship, or something in between, here’s where to go next.
Manchester
Queer Manchester has quietly become one of the city’s most reliable matchmakers, minus the pressure. Their events for queer women and non-binary folk span everything from low-key socials to full-blown club nights. Think pizza and a pint for £15, or their upcoming Big Gay Quiz on 6 May, just £3.50 for an evening that promises chaos, camaraderie, and “truly horrific prizes,” according to organisers Holly Payne and Morgan Kibble. In other words? Perfect.
Big Gay Quiz | 6 May | 6:30PM | £3.50 | Science & Industry – Manchester – Cane & Grain | Buy tickets here.
Liverpool
Born out of a desire to fill the lesbian bar-shaped hole in Liverpool’s nightlife, Lavender Nights has grown into a thriving community hub. Co-founded by Niahma Albones and Alessia Naccari, their events range from dreamy garden parties to film nights and socials. This April, they’re levelling up with Liverpool Queer Fest, a full-day celebration featuring an arts market with over 20 queer creators, craft stations, poetry, and live music.
Liverpool Queer Fest | 25 April | 12-11PM | £22.38 | Sub Rosa | Buy tickets here.
Birmingham
SCSSR Socials are redefining what queer community looks like in the West Midlands. Their lesbian-focused FLINTA events cover all bases: from Drink & Draw evenings to hikes and casual mixers. On 23 April, they’re hosting an over-25s meet-up at Plonk, free, relaxed, and ideal if you’re after connection without the chaos of a dancefloor.
Over 25s Mixer | 23 April | 7:30-9:30PM | Free Admission | Plonk | Buy tickets here.
Edinburgh
If subtle isn’t your thing, Girls Go Feral has you covered. Their unapologetically high-energy club nights are a love letter to queer feminine chaos, think dykes, dolls, butches, femmes and everyone in between, all under one sweaty, euphoric roof. On 2 May at The Mash House, expect a fierce drag performance from Violet Grace followed by DJ sets that will keep you moving until 3AM.
Feral | 2 May | 11PM-3AM | £8:30 | The Mash House | Buy tickets here.
Cardiff
Escape Gurlz are bringing the vibes to Wales with their monthly pop-ups for bi and lesbian women. Whether it’s a club takeover or a more intimate supper club, their events are all about connection and conversation. On 22 May, they’re hosting a dinner at Giovannis On The Hayes, an ideal evening for those who prefer pasta and meaningful eye contact over pounding basslines.
Supper Club | 22 May | 7PM | £6.13 | Giovannis On The Hayes | Buy tickets here.
Belfast
The Belfast Sapphics Society is a creativity hub. Their events range from pool parties to zine-making nights and even “flirts and crafts” speed dating. On 25 April, they’re hosting Sile na Gig: Comic Chic, a workshop blending comic storytelling with conversations around women’s health.
Sile na Gig: Comic Chic | 25 April | 7PM | £11.25 | 5th Element | Buy tickets here.
London
If your ideal night out involves sequins, camp, and a hint of yeehaw, Bonanza’s Queer Cowboy Cabaret is calling your name. Taking place at The Divine on 15 May, the evening kicks off with line dancing before descending into a gloriously chaotic, western-themed cabaret. Expect glitter, drama, and maybe even a meet-cute or two.
Queer Cowboy Cabaret | 15 May | 7PM | £10 | The Divine | Buy tickets here.
