The Rainbow Lottery has raised over £500,000 for LGBTQIA+ causes across the UK, selling over one million tickets in less than five years.
Set up in 2021, The Rainbow Lottery aims to raise money within the community for the community. As the UK’s first and only lottery supporting LGBTQIA+ good causes, players can pick a cause to support and then buy their tickets. With 50% of every £1 ticket going directly to a cause chosen by a player, it allows LGBTQIA+ good causes to access vital funding.
There are currently 200 LGBTQIA+ good-cause partners registered with The Rainbow Lottery, including charities like Elton John AIDS Foundation, Stonewall and the Peter Tatchell Foundation.
Tom Gattos, co-founder of the Rainbow Lottery, said: “Many of the organisations we support work directly with LGBTQ+ women — often those who are under-represented, under-funded and under-heard. Knowing that £1 tickets are helping fund safe spaces, support services and community care for LGBTQ+ women across the UK is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
With the £500,000 raised, The Rainbow Lottery has been able to help community groups, grassroots organisations and charities continue their incredible work in the community. Causes include mental health support, advocacy work, housing advice, HIV services and community safe spaces.
Alongside raising this money, The Rainbow Lottery has also paid out over £130,000 in prizes to players across the UK.
