While this time of year is often seen as merry and bright, for many LGBTQIA+ people Christmas can be incredibly lonely. That’s why LGBTQIA+ mental health and wellbeing charity Queerwell is opening its Online Sanctuary. This free, affirming space offers connection, calm and community for anyone who may be feeling isolated.
Taking place on Christmas Day (25 Dec), Queerwell’s Sanctuary will be providing live, facilitated sessions throughout the day which anyone can join. This event acts as an online expansion of their Sunday Sanctuary wellness space which operates in Finsbury Park every week.
For this special online edition, the Sanctuary will run two online sessions. One will be held from 9:30 am – 11:00 am featuring a Queer Christmas Get-Together and creative collage crafts session. The other will be taking place from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm for their Evening Wind Down which will feature a Big Queer Quiz followed by a guided mindfulness relaxation. There is no pressure to stay for the entire time, and it’s up to you how much you’d like to participate.
Queerwell was founded by people who have lived experience of poor mental health, and their main aim is to provide accessible, LGBTQIA+-affirming mental health support. They understand that Christmas can be a tricky time of year, especially for those estranged from family, experiencing financial or emotional stress or living alone.
